What changed

The UAE Federal Tax Authority states that Corporate Tax returns or annual declarations and any tax due fall within a nine-month period measured from the relevant year end.

Verified source fact: the FTA’s 24 September 2025 notice requires Corporate Taxable Persons to file returns within no more than nine months from the end of their Tax Period; Exempt Persons required to register file annual declarations within nine months from the end of their financial year. It says the filing and payment need not occur at the same time, warns that bank processing can delay receipt and directs taxpayers to EmaraTax. The notice also lists core return fields including Tax Period, TRN, accounting principles, taxable income, loss relief, carried-forward losses, credits and tax payable.

Horizon interpretation: a compliant calendar needs two controlled events—accepted filing and cleared payment—mapped to the entity’s actual Tax Period. Preparing only a payment date or relying on a group-wide year end can miss the filing perimeter. The notice supports early preparation and processing allowance, but it does not calculate taxable income or confirm that a person is exempt, eligible for a relief or outside registration.

Next check: confirm the entity’s current registration status, Tax Period and return type in EmaraTax, then reconcile the computation, financial statements, elections, reliefs, losses and credits to the latest law, Cabinet and Ministerial decisions and FTA clarifications. Record the platform acceptance and bank-value date separately; recheck for later penalty or procedural changes before filing.

What the evidence supports

  • The outer period is nine months from the relevant Tax Period or financial-year end.
  • Return filing and payment are separate actions and need not occur simultaneously.
  • The FTA warns that payment processing time can create a late receipt.
  • The notice lists core return data but does not determine the taxpayer’s final computation.

Horizon interpretation

Why it matters commercially

Use the notice to set a filing-and-payment control anchored to the taxpayer’s own Tax Period, with processing time allowed before the deadline.

Questions before acting

  1. 1What is the entity’s confirmed Tax Period and applicable return or declaration type?
  2. 2Who owns accepted filing, cleared payment and supporting-record evidence?
  3. 3Which current decisions, elections or relief conditions change the computation?
