Limits and what this does not prove: Before commitment, verify: Lender implementation dates, eligible products and published treatment of the two score ranges; Product-specific approval, pricing, affordability and documentation rules applied alongside the score; AECB guidance on data correction, dispute handling and score evolution for limited-data profiles.

Credit Score 3i brings recent residents and thin-file customers into a longer assessment horizon, but lenders still own approval and pricing.

What changed

Al Etihad Credit Bureau launched Credit Score 3i with a 36-month assessment horizon and a scoring route for new-to-credit and recent UAE residents. Established histories use a 300–850 range, while limited-data profiles use 300–650; AECB reported about 11.6 million records at September 2026.

Al Etihad Credit Bureau launched Credit Score 3i with an assessment horizon of 36 months, compared with 24 months for the previous score, and a route for people who are new to credit or recently resident in the UAE. The official account gives a 300–850 range for established credit histories and 300–650 for profiles with limited data. Because the inputs and population differ, the two numerical ranges should not be treated as directly equivalent.

AECB reported that its database contained approximately 11.6 million individual and business records, 20.2 million active contracts and 25.3 million active IBANs at September 2026. The bureau also states that a score may improve within six months after resolved defaults and positive subsequent behaviour. This is a possible time horizon, not a guaranteed score outcome, loan approval, credit limit or interest rate.

For banks and fintechs, the change can widen the formal risk evidence available for customers with a short local history. Implementation still requires product-specific governance: identity and income verification, affordability, fraud controls, model validation, customer explanation, data correction and lender risk appetite. A borrower or adviser should obtain the actual AECB report and the chosen lender’s criteria rather than use a public score range as a promise of financing.

Business impact

  • Credit Score 3i extends the assessment horizon from 24 to 36 months and introduces scoring for new-to-credit and recent UAE residents with limited local history.
  • As of September 2026, AECB reported approximately 11.6 million individual and business records, 20.2 million active contracts and 25.3 million active IBANs in its database.
  • The change may widen the evidence available for underwriting thin-file customers, but each lender retains its own affordability, risk, identity, product and pricing decision.

What the evidence supports

  • The assessment horizon increases from 24 to 36 months.
  • The product introduces a route for new-to-credit and recent UAE residents.
  • The 300–850 and 300–650 ranges apply to different data profiles and are not directly comparable.
  • A credit score remains an underwriting input, not an approval, limit or price.

Horizon interpretation

Why it matters commercially

The new score can broaden underwriting evidence for customers with limited local history, but it does not guarantee approval, limit or pricing. Lenders still apply their own affordability, identity, risk and product rules, and the two score ranges should not be compared directly.

Questions before acting

  1. 1Which lender, product and customer profile will use Credit Score 3i, and from what implementation date?
  2. 2What affordability, identity, fraud, documentation and risk rules operate alongside the score?
  3. 3How can the customer inspect, correct or dispute the underlying AECB data before a decision?

Source and editorial position

The assessment horizon, score ranges and database figures are attributed to Al Etihad Credit Bureau through Emirates News Agency on 29 October 2026. Horizon does not present the score as a loan approval, credit limit, product price or guaranteed six-month improvement, and does not compare the two ranges as if their data populations were identical.
